As veteran readers of this blog will know, contrary to The Sunday Herald's belief, Linlithgow already has a book festival. Last year's inaugural festival was a one-day affair, but the two-year-old LBF has done with doukin its taes in the watter and is splashing into a whole weekend of bookish blether from Friday 2 November to Sunday 4 November 2007.
The start times of the events for this year's LBF are still to be confirmed, but the basic line-up is as follows:
Friday 2 Nov evening:
- AL Kennedy reading from her new novel, Day.
Saturday 3 Nov afternoon:
- Douglas Watt on The Price of Scotland: Darien, Union and the Wealth of Nations.
- The opportunity to participate in writing a renga, led by Ken Cockburn. The completed poem will be read out before Alan Spence's evening event.
Saturday 3 Nov evening:
- Alan Spence reading from his latest novel, The Pure Land.
Sunday 4 Nov morning:
- Dr Chris Robinson of Scottish Language Dictionaries on a Scots language research project to be undertaken in Linlithgow.
Sunday 4 Nov afternoon:
- William Wallace and Scottish Culture: poetry, prose and discussion from Louise Yeoman, John Fowler and Andrew Philip (yup, it's yours truly).
